KILLEEN, Texas — Brandon Antony Rogers, 35, of Killeen was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest in a motor vehicle after Rogers attempted to strike a Killeen police office with a vehicle and fled the scene of a domestic disturbance call late April 13.
Rogers is being held in the Bell County Jail with bond set at a total of $300,000 for both charges.
Killeen police officer David Hoffman, who has been with the department for two years, responded to the call around late April 13 in the 600 block of Vermont Street.
Hoffman arrived on scene just after 11:15 p.m. and came into contact with the suspect outside the house. According to a release from KPD, the officer gave verbal commands to Rogers twice, telling him to stop the vehicle. Rogers failed to comply and Hoffman shot as he avoided Roger's attempt to strike him with a vehicle.
Additional officers found Rogers fleeing the scene and pursued the suspect. Rogers stopped and abandoned the vehicle in the 1400 block of Van Zanten Drive. Officers searched the area and found the suspect hiding in a culvert in the 1300 block of S. 2nd Street. The suspect was taken to Baylor Scott & White in Temple with two non-life threatening gunshot wounds. One wound was in the left shoulder and the other in the right arm.
Rogers was released from the hospital April 14 and was taken to the Killeen City Jail.
Hoffman was placed on administrative leave, following protocol for officer-involved shootings. The investigation was turned over to the Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers.
