TEMPLE, Texas — Paul Lopez, a Temple resident, is frustrated after hiring a local contractor to repair his home, which sustained significant damage during an EF2 tornado in May.
"The screens on two windows are torn, a light is broken and doesn’t work, the air conditioning fins are bent, and the fence is damaged," Lopez described the state of his property, which still showed signs of the storm's aftermath.
Lopez chose a contractor recommended by a neighbor. Despite paying for the repairs in July and seeing initial progress on his roof in August, other promised work remains incomplete months later.
By November, after repeated attempts to contact the company through calls and emails, Lopez had yet to receive any updates.
"Communication should be one of the priorities," Lopez said, adding that he felt compelled to reach out to the 6 News 6 Fix team for assistance.
6 News is not naming the company at this time. When 6 News contacted the contractor, a company spokesperson said the delay is due to the prioritization of roof repairs following the tornado.
They claimed a follow-up visit was scheduled, but Lopez said he was never informed of this until 6 News called.
"Somebody did show up," he said, confirming that repairs to parts of the fence and air conditioning were completed on a Saturday. However, Lopez says someone with the company said the remaining work would be finished the following Monday -- a promise that remains unfulfilled.
"If you’re going to start a job, you need to start it and finish it," Lopez said, expressing continued disappointment over the lack of follow-through.
Lopez now plans to file a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. As of this report, the contractor has not responded to follow-up inquiries from 6 News regarding an estimated timeline for completion.
