'We're so happy this is done' | 6 Fix success, Heidenheimer Bridge construction now complete

The bridge construction had been at a standstill for two years until construction started back up in April.

HEIDENHEIMER, Texas — Construction at the Heidenheimer Bridge is now complete along FM 436 after being at a standstill for two years.

"Two years goodness gracious. It's finally done," said resident Candace Wilcox.

The Wilcox family along with several others reached out to 6 Fix months ago and is now feeling relieved and grateful that the bridge is open for drivers.

"I told my husband, honey, I think, I think the road's open," Wilcox added. "He said, What? Wait a minute, turn around and go back. We drove over and everything was open. We were just like, oh my god, we can go over the bridge now."

Wilcox also praised Representative Hugh Shine who called her multiple times to update her on the progress.

"Hugh Shine personally called my husband more than once and kept us updated on the on the progress of how the bridge was going," she said. "He was not reelected to office, but he still stayed on on the progress of this and kept us updated."

The efforts from residents and 6 News got a contractor back on the project in April and got the bridge repair complete.

"People may not think that this one little bridge is a big thing, but it really was a big thing," Wilcox said.
