TEMPLE, Texas — With yet another alleged victim of fraud and theft planning on filing charges against the Central Texas pool company Moonlight Pool & Spa, members of the growing Facebook group "Victims of Moonlight" who spoke with the Bell County District Attorney's Office said investigators are requesting more documentation related to customers' business dealings with the embattled company.
Susan Hendrickson, who has previously spoken with 6 News on other Moonlight-related stories, said the DA's office is looking for paid invoices, estimates, quotes and work order repairs submitted to the company before any charges can go forward.
Justin Bowser, a Morgan's Point Resort resident, contracted Moonlight Pool & Spa for a new pool back in 2022, spending nearly $22,000 for a job that, like many others, was allegedly abandoned by the company before communications were cut off entirely.
Bowser said he plans on filing what will be the latest complaint against the company with the Morgan's Point Resort Police Department.
"They never come out, they just continuously blow off the calls, and then you'd be calling them and they wouldn't answer you and they'd try to reschedule you and nothing would ever get done," Bowser said.
Bowser said he made his final payment to the company back in June of 2023, and as the months went by and no work got done, his frustration began to grow. He said he called the Moonlight office more than 50 times and none of his calls were answered.
"When I finally got them out to do the pebble tech towards the end, the pool cracked and the rod iron was exposed and the white pipes as well by about a half-an-inch into the cement, and instead of fixing it, they just plastered over it again before I had them stop work," Bowser said.
Bowser said around 75 percent of the pool is complete, but nearly 90 percent of the product needs to be "ripped out and corrected."
"They really could give two craps on who it was," Bowser said. "As far as they pushed it I'm surprised somebody didn't do something to them honestly."
In the Facebook group "Victims of Moonlight", customers have even posted requests from the private equity firm that bankrolled the company to buy their equipment asking for bank statements as to where the loan they provided Moonlight went.
Around six people have already filed complaints with various law enforcement agencies throughout Bell County, including the District Attorney's Office.
6 News reached out to Moonlight owner Mikael Rem and his partner Kevin Lock to request a comment on this story, but their phone lines were disconnected.
