Texas heat poses deadly risk: Reminder to never leave children unattended in vehicles

This year, five children nationwide have already lost their lives due to being left in hot vehicles.

WACO, Texas — As summer brings in the notorious Texas heat, Waco Police Department officials are reminding residents about the severe dangers of leaving children unattended in hot vehicles.

This year, five children nationwide have already lost their lives due to being left in hot vehicles.

Pediatric vehicular heatstroke can cause permanent disability or death, even if children are left alone for just a short period.

Temperatures inside a car can escalate rapidly, increasing by 19 degrees Fahrenheit within just 10 minutes, and continue to rise regardless of whether windows are cracked.

Waco authorities urge the community to remain cautoius. If you see young children left alone in a vehicle for an extended period, especially in this heat and when the vehicle is not running, contact the Waco Police Department immediately.
