Mosquito tests positive for West Nile Virus in Bartlett, Health District says

The City of Bartlett said it is working with the County on coordinating spraying throughout the city.

BARTLETT, Texas — The Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD) has reported that the first mosquito has tested positive for West Nile Virus in Bartlett.

According to the WCCHD, the mosquito was caught in a trap in the area of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Park, located on the southern side of the city.

The City of Bartlett is reportedly working with the County to coordinate spraying throughout the city "as soon as weather permits" with scheduling its contractor.

WCCHD recommends the 3 Ds of mosquito safety:

  • Drain standing water in flowerpots, pet dishes or clogged gutters so mosquitoes don’t have a place to breed and treat water that can’t be drained
  • Defend by using an EPA-approved insect repellent
  • Dress in long sleeves and pants when outdoors, especially at dawn and dusk

Those with questions or concerns can contact Mayor Chad Mees at MayorMees@bartlett-tx.us.
