Temple police to begin wearing face masks to protect against spread of COVID-19

Temple police were given N95 masks to wear while they are on patrol.

TEMPLE, Texas — All Temple police officers have been given N95 face masks, goggles and gloves for protection while they are on patrol.

The city said the move comes in response to information released by the Centers for Disease Control and not because of the number of identified cases of coronavirus in Temple.

"Providing this option is a measure that the department is taking toward protecting the safety of its employees and the residents of Temple," Deputy Chief Jeff Clark said.

Temple Police Department employees were also authorized to wear cloth masks during their shift hours when social distancing is not possible.
