Millions in COVID-19 relief funds coming to Central Texas airports

Six airports in the Central Texas area will receive more than a combined $20-million.

WACO, Texas — Central Texas airports will get more than $20-million in coronavirus relief funds, including more than $18-million for the Waco Regional Airport.

Sen. John Cornyn said the money is meant to relieve the economic pressures the spread of COVID-19 put on the travel industry.

“As Texas reels from the economic destruction caused by the coronavirus outbreak, it’s important our airports have the resources they need to weather the storm,” Cornyn said. “I commend both the Trump Administration and leaders in the Waco-Temple-Killeen area who worked to secure these funds during this trying time.”

The money was approved in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act and comes through the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Here's a breakdown of how much Central Texas airports will receive.
