CENTRAL, Texas — Gold's Gym locations throughout Central Texas will open Monday, May 18 with updated cleaning protocols, modified hours and more.

According to a release from the gym's corporate communications, the locations will open and operate at 25 percent capacity, to abide by state guidelines. The gym will require members to wear gloves covering fingertips and palms, but masks will not be mandatory although they are recommended.

Under the new protocols, members will also:

  • Be required to wipe down equipment after each use with cleaners provided
  • Not be allowed to use water fountains
  • Only be allowed to use a card on file; no cash

Members will have access to cardio machines, free weights, strength machines and stretching areas. Other amenities will remain closed or unavailable, including:

  • Group exercises and classes
  • Cycle rooms
  • Kid's Club
  • Pools, saunas/steam rooms
  • Locker rooms/showers; bathrooms will still be accessible

Employees will be required to wear masks and gloves, and will provide no-contact member check-ins. New health and safety protocols will require work out machines to be six feet apart, zone cleanings for all areas and high-touch surfaces, professional after-hours cleaning, additional cleaning supply stations for members.

Locations opening include gyms in Waco, Bryan, Tower Point, College Station, Copperas Cove and Killeen.

The modified hours for the gym will be: Monday-Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

An "intermission" will occur daily from 1-2 p.m. to restock cleaning supplies and conduct a full gym cleaning. During that time, no members may enter and check in, but members already in the gym will be able to finish their workouts.
