TEMPLE, Texas — The Central Texas Regional Advisory Council (RAC) will offer free stroke screenings to residents in six Central Texas counties in honor of World Stroke Day.
Screenings will be offered at locations in Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam and Mills counties as part of the Council's "Stomp Out Stroke" program, which aims to educate the community on stroke awareness and prevention.
Central Texas RAC said the goal of "Stomp Out Stroke" is to encourage people to understand stroke risk factors, ways to recognize the warning signs of stroke and how to act if a stroke occurs.
The free screenings will be provided by local partner hospitals and EMS agencies on Friday, Oct. 27. All screenings are free, and no appointment is necessary, according to Central Texas RAC.
Participating hospitals and the location and time they will provide screenings can be found below:
- AdventHealth Rollins Brook – Lampasas, WalMart, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Coryell Health System – Gatesville, hospital lobby, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

According to Central Texas RAC, around 795,000 Americans suffer strokes every year, with strokes being the leading cause of severe long-term disability. They say up to 80% of all strokes are preventable through risk factor management, and the National Stroke Association encourages everyone to reduce risks, recognize warning signs, and respond to signs of a stroke.
