Annual 'Battle of the Badges' Blood Drive kicks off in Waco

Donations can be made throughout the two-week period at several locations.

WACO, Texas — The annual "Battle of the Badges" blood drive competition is set to begin this Saturday, August 17, at Cabela’s Outpost in the Central Texas Marketplace.

The kickoff event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where community members are encouraged to donate blood and show their support for the Waco Police Department.

The event marks the start of a friendly competition between the Waco Police Department, Waco Fire Department, and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office. The goal is to see which agency can rally the most blood donations in their name over the next two weeks.

One blood donation has the potential to save up to three adult lives or six infant lives. Organizers hope to collect 300 units of blood during the competition, which runs through August 31.

Donations can be made throughout the two-week period at several locations, including the Carter BloodCare Center, Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital, and Ascension Providence Hospital.

To find the nearest donation site and to sign up, visit Waco's website.
