GROESBECK, Texas — Groesbeck Independent School District announced on Facebook it hired Jerry Bomar, who used to coach at the ISD 28 years ago, as its new athletic director and head football coach.
Bomar led the Goats to a state championship in 1991, the ISD said. Bomar's is 256-149-3 in his career. His win total is 28th all time in Texas High School Football.
Bomar is replacing coach Steve Hale, who accepted the athletic director and head football coach job at Hillsboro ISD. The ISD said Bomar has 43 years of coaching experience. He's served as an athletic director for 22 years.
"Although I don't know coach Bomar personally, his achievements speak for themselves," superintendent Dr. James Cowley said.
Bomar's last stop was at Beeville ISD, where he was the athletic director and football coach from 2016 to 2019. The ISD said it appears he will start in April.
"I am proud that we are fortunate enough to have such a capable and experienced coach and athletic director that will be leading our Goats and Lady Goats on and off the fields and courts," Cowley said.
