FORT HOOD, Texas — A new, 24-hour hotline has been activated on Fort Hood, so soldiers and their families can register complaints about housing conditions that need attention. This comes just days after a series of town hall meetings that saw hundreds of complaints from soldiers and their families of on-post living conditions.
"Gaining and maintaining the trust of our soldiers and their families is a primary concern," Col. Hank Perry, Fort Hood garrison commander, said. "Ensuring their well-being is essential to maintaining our mission readiness."
According to a post on the III Corps and Fort Hood Facebook page, "changes are being made in regards to housing maintenance procedures and responsibility on Fort Hood." Those changes, according to the same Facebook post, include Lendlease, the company responsible for managing on-post housing, hiring additional maintenance staff, as well as working to expedite current work orders.
Fort Hood officials said there are more than 1,100 work orders being worked through the system and no more than 20 are deemed "pertaining to life or death."
Command teams will also begin door-to-door visits across Fort Hood and are committed "to visit 100 percent" of barracks and homes on post to make sure that all concerns are being addressed. This will be completed no later than March 18, officials said.
Soldiers and family members with concerns should call the Housing/Barracks Life/Health/Safety Leader Hotline at (254)-206-1157. The new hotline is managed by the III Corps and Fort Hood Field Officer of the Day, according to Fort Hood officials.
