WACO, Texas — Waco Independent School District has a new Deputy Superintendent.
The district announced on Tuesday, Dec. 17 that Dr. Melissa King-Knowles has been named to the position, taking over from Dr. Josie Gutierrez. King-Knowles will reportedly begin serving in the position "immediately following the holiday break" on Jan. 6.
According to Waco ISD, King-Knowles has over 22 years of teaching experience and currently serves the Tomball ISD School Support Office-Secondary Education.
King-Knowles has more than 14 years of experience as an administrator in K-12 public education and also served as adjunct faculty at both the University of Texas-Austin and Texas State University, said Waco ISD. She earned her doctoral degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, her Master of Arts Degree from Texas State University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Southwest Texas State, now known as Texas State University.

Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer said the district is excited to welcome King-Knowles as the new deputy superintendent.
“With more than two decades of experience in public school education, Dr. King-Knowles brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership and heart for doing what it takes to achieve student success,” Spicer said in a statement. “Her proven track record as a committed and highly qualified administrator makes her an invaluable addition to our team. We are truly fortunate to have her expertise helping guide our district, and we look forward to the positive impact she will have on Waco ISD.”
