The Waco ISD Education Foundation surprised 24 teachers on 12 campuses Thursday with the news that their grant applications have been approved for the 2017-2018 school year, the district said in a press release.
"This year, the Foundation is awarding $107,015 back to the district, bringing the total funded to more than $1.5 million over the past decade and a half," Waco ISD Spokesperson Bruce Gietzen said.
The grants will fund programs aimed at everything from the fine arts to STEM-based initiatives involving drones and robots.
Grant applications are chosen for funding by a committee that includes members of the foundation's board of directors and community volunteers.
