TEMPLE, Texas — Temple Independent School District has declared April 8, a school holiday as a precautionary measure due to the expected impact of a full solar eclipse on Central Texas.
County authorities have strongly advised the closure of schools in the region on this day, according to TISD.
Despite the closure, TISD reassures parents that the school calendar has enough instructional minutes. This means students do not have to make up the missed day.
In preparation for the solar eclipse, the district purchased disposable glasses for all students. These glasses will be distributed to students on April 4 and 5. Parents are strongly encouraged to ensure their children wear these glasses for eye protection if they choose to observe the eclipse.
To uphold an educational component during the closure, teachers will send eclipse-related activities for families to participate in at home during the event.
