MEXIA, Texas — A social media post seen as a threat against a Mexia ISD school campus has been deemed not credible, according to a post from the district Tuesday morning.
While the district worked with Mexia Police to determine the threat was not credible, additional officers will be surveying and monitoring campuses to ensure there are no threats and the students in attendance are safe.
"Last night Mexia ISD Administration was made aware of a social media post about a song that made reference to 'shooting up the high school in Mexia'," the district said in a post about the matter. "District administrators immediately contacted Mexia Police who investigated and determined this was not a credible threat. As a precaution, additional law enforcement officers will check on all MISD campuses this morning and throughout the day. Safety of students and staff will always be the district's highest priority."
The district is one of many others across the state that have had to investigate and collaborate with local authorities to inquire and ultimately dispel threats related to violence at the school's campuses in the wake of the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 and a deadly school shooting at a high school in Georgia.
In the Brazos Valley, in Hearne, a threat that was made towards the Hearne Independent School District on Thursday ended with a juvenile being arrested after it was discovered that they were in possession of ammo at their home in Bryan.
The day before the incident involving the Hearne Independent School District, another student was arrested at Bryan High School after being found with a gun in their backpack while in a campus classroom.
