MART, Texas — Mart ISD Superintendent Betsy Burnett has been placed on administrative leave by the Board of Trustees pending the proposed termination of her contract, the district has announced.
According to a statement from the district, the Board of Trustees took action to place Burnett on administrative leave at their board meeting on Nov. 25. The Board said Burnett has been informed of the reasons for the Board's actions since January 2024 and will be provided with notice of the charges in writing, as required by law.
Mart ISD said the Board is not at liberty to discuss personnel matters of employees, but that "a review of the Board's meeting minutes since January 2024 demonstrates the Board's efforts and work since early this year to improve the joint leadership between the Board and Superintendent."
According to the Board, its actions included multiple Board trainings, Team of 8 trainings with the Superintendent, written Board goals and expectations and multiple Executive Session meetings to discuss Superintendent roles and responsibilities, as well as consultation with Board legal counsel.
"The Mart ISD Board is entrusted with acting in the best interest of the District and the Board acted in the best interest of the District based on the information it has considered and discussed with the Superintendent for almost a year," said the Mart ISD Board Officers in a statement. "As a Board we will continue to strive to keep the best interest of our students, faculty, staff and community of Mart ISD at the forefront of all we do. Thank you for your support."
