BELTON, Texas — One Belton ISD Elementary School has earned a prestigious honor in recognition of its work for students.
Lakewood Elementary is the recipient of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools award for the 2023-2024 academic year!
According to the school, the award recognizes Lakewood for its "dedication to fostering a positive campus culture and nurturing emotionally supportive environments".
Capturing Kids' Hearts, an organization that works with districts to foster campus culture and student connectedness, says the award is both a "high aspiration and an exemplary recognition of excellence" that recognizes educators who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in student's lives.
As part of the program, Lakewood staff and educators undergo training to "facilitate connections between students and adults, fostering classrooms where learning thrives and students eagerly engage each day," said the school in a release.
"Among the 612 campuses nationwide, Lakewood stands out for its outstanding achievement," stated the school.
Campuses who were eligible for the award were reportedly evaluated on criteria such as how they applied Capturing Kids’ Hearts training and improvements in attendance, discipline, climate and culture and academics.
