A Gatesville ISD employee has resigned, after allegations he gave a student a performance enhancing drug, according to the Gatesville Police Department.

A Gatesville ISD employee has resigned, after allegations he gave a student a performance enhancing drug, according to the Gatesville Police Department.

The district first opened an internal investigation July 19, after a "concerned community member" said something to Gatesville ISD Athletic Director Kyle Cooper. The situation was later reported to Gatesville Police officers, who are investigating.

Officials at Gatesville ISD also reported the allegations to the Texas Education Agency's State Board for Educator Certification, as required by Texas law.

"GISD is committed to ensuring the health and well-being of every child are at the forefront of any decisions," Superintendent Eric Penrod said in a statement.

Penrod also said the district has a mandatory drug testing policy for extracurricular activities, which outlines consequences for any failed tests.

The name of the male employee was not released by Gatesville ISD, as of Thursday afternoon.
