WACO, Texas — A man was detained in the afternoon on Thursday, Oct. 24 after being reported to authorities by Connally ISD staff.
That day, recess monitors at Connally Elementary School in Waco noticed students were being approached by an "unknown individual" at the fence line that was trying to speak to them. The teachers quickly brought the students into the school building and notified authorities of the individual.
Officers from the Connally ISD Police Department and Lacy Lakeview Police Department arrived within minutes of being notified of the individual and were able to find him walking along the fence line past the Connally Early Childhood Center and detain him.
"We are incredibly thankful that our students reacted to this situation in a quick and safe way," the district said in a Facebook post on Thursday. "Their actions--along with the well-executed, professional response by CISD faculty members--helped ensure that no one was hurt."
The individual's identity was not revealed.
Connally ISD says they are investigating the situation to ensure that students and staff remain safe.
