29 Killeen ISD schools newly recognized as Purple Star schools

38 total Killeen ISD schools now hold the designation for their service to military students and families.

KILLEEN, Texas — 29 more Killeen ISD schools have been recognized for serving military families.

Killeen ISD has announced that 29 schools in the district have been recognized as Purple Star schools by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in honor of their "strong school support for military-connected students and families."

38 total schools across Killeen ISD are now designated as Purple Star campuses. The designation lasts for two years.

“Earning these designations is near and dear to our hearts in Killeen ISD,” Angenet Wilkerson, director of district and community relations at KISD, said. “These students and their families sacrifice so much for our country, and it’s our honor to come alongside them and help make their K-12 educational journey the best it can be.”

According to the district, the Purple Star designation was created by the 86th Texas Legislature through SB 1557, and recognizes Texas school districts and open-enrollment charter school campuses that "show their support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families."
