KILLEEN, Texas โ A military mom is pleading for closure after she's been left without answers about who struck her son with their vehicle in 2019.
"If I don't have his voice, who will," questioned Sherneatha Youngblood, the mother of Christopher Rivers Jr.
On Nov. 9, 2019, the 27-year-old soldier in the U.S. Army, was walking on Twin Creek Drive when he was struck by what appeared to be a green Chevy or GMC-style pick-up.
The driver didn't stop and fled the scene, leaving Rivers lying on the road. When he was found, he was rushed to the hospital and was put on life-support. Then, his mother, Sherneatha Youngblood, had to make the difficult decision to pull the plug.
"I'm just like, in looking at him. I'm like, this is no way to live," she said. "So I did, you know not that he responded or anything because he had no brain activity. No nothing when I got there, but at least you know his wife allowed me to make that decision."
Now, it's been four years since she lost her son -- and to this day, his case remains unsolved.
"I will never have a grandchild. I will never be able to say you know, go visit him again. I will never be able to hear his voice personally," she said.
Recently, on the fourth anniversary of his death, Youngblood posted to Facebook, making it known that not only does she want closure, but she wants to offer forgiveness to the person who struck Rivers.
"I say to them, I forgive them... I'm hopeful that they're going to finally get peace themselves because in my head there is no way in God's green earth that this person is sleeping comfortably at night," she said.
She also hopes that if anyone has information that day, to let her or the police know.
"If you all have any information, please share it," she added. "Those little tips will help the authorities do their job even better. But it's going to take a village"
