MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — Former Waco Tribune-Herald sportswriter John Werner and his wife Karen Werner have died after an alleged double shooting on Monday, Aug. 12, the McLennan County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) confirmed to 6 News.
According to the Sheriff's Office, John Werner, 67, and his wife Karen, 65, were found inside their home in Chalk Bluff, having been shot in the head. MCSO said a suicide note was found at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office later told 6 News John and Karen Werner died on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
MCSO stated they received a call from John Werner from the home around 3 p.m. on Aug. 12. When deputies arrived on the scene, they reportedly found John and Karen Werner "critically wounded".
The two were taken to the hospital where they were listed in critical condition at the time, according to the Sheriff's Office.
No further information has been given at this time.
