Waco officer injured, bitten while trying to arrest man at Dollar General

A Waco officer was bitten and broke a bone in his hand while trying to arrest a man at a Dollar General Tuesday morning.

WACO, Texas —

A Waco police officer was attacked Tuesday morning by a man who was trying to arrest for using counterfeit money.

Police said Fernando Sandoval went into Dollar General on Bosque Blvd. and tried to use a counterfeit $100 bill.

As an officer began to take Sandoval into custody he started fighting the officer, police said. 

Sandoval bit the officer on his right arm and during the struggle, police said the officer broke a bone in his right hand and received cuts on his head.

Sandoval was subdued and arrested. He was charged with aggravated assault, forgery, resisting arrest and attempting to take a weapon from an officer.

The officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK. 

The suspect was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries, then to the McLennan County Jail, according to Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton.
