Violent Waco rapist sentenced to life in prison

Justin Shah had previously sexually assaulted a woman in Fort Worth and had prior convictions for theft and assault.

WACO, Texas — Violent rapist Justin Shah was sentenced to life in prison in Waco by 54th District Court Judge Susan Kelly on Friday, Aug. 23.

At 4:30 a.m. on May 4, 2023, Shah entered the home of a 27-year-old woman in the 900 block of Briar Drive in Waco and attempted to sexually assault her at gunpoint, police say.

According to police, the man pointed his gun at the victim’s 4-year-old child, who was sleeping in the same room. The victim then began to fight her attacker. Multiple gunshots were fired in the struggle, but neither the woman or her child were hit.

The attacker fled the scene and the woman called 911. Police arrived to the home and found the victim beaten and with the imprint of a gun barrel on her head.

Investigators quickly learned that the victim’s husband was introduced to Shah earlier in the night at a Waco bar. After the victim went to bed, the husband texted Shah, inviting him to continue drinking at the husband’s business. Shah briefly met the husband at the couple’s home before following the husband to the business. Shah only remained there a short time before returning to the couple’s home and attacking the sleeping wife.

The husband gave police the phone number of Shah and Investigators discovered that he was charged with sexually assaulting another woman in Fort Worth and was wearing a GPS leg monitor in connection with that case in Tarrant County.

With the data they acquired, police confirmed information provided by the victim's husband and found Shah four days later in a Waco motel.

During the trial, it was revealed that Shah additionally had prior convictions for theft and assault.

Shah was a member of the outlaw biker gang Mongols and now will serve life in prison.
