'Don't leave me for dead in the street' | DoorDash deliverer hit by car in Waco

Aaron Ayers told 6 News he woke up in the hospital with a concussion, cracked ribs, bruises and scrapes and a wound to his head.

WACO, Texas — Video from a Ring doorbell camera shows the moment a DoorDash deliverer was hit by a car while making a delivery in Waco.

According to the Waco Police Department, officers were called to the 5900 block of Morningside Drive at 10:56 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, where they found the man. Police said he had been hit while on his bike.

Waco PD stated a "suspect vehicle" stopped at a stop sign and "failed to yield the right of way", pulling out in front of the bike and causing a collision. Police said the vehicle left the scene before officers arrived.

The cyclist, Aaron Ayers, told 6 News he was delivering for DoorDash at the time. The crash was captured on a neighbor's Ring doorbell camera, which showed the moment Ayers was hit by the vehicle.

"It was awful," Ayers said. "I feel incredibly lucky to be alive."

Neighbors could be seen coming out of their homes to help Ayers.

Ayers told 6 News he is now out of the hospital. He says he woke up there with a concussion, cracked ribs, bruises and scrapes and a wound to his head. Ayers said he received eight staples in the back of his head and some stitches and is now back home.

Ayers described the vehicle as a blue Equinox. He says he hopes someone comes forward to take responsibility. Police are reportedly investigating.

"You got to take responsibility," Ayers added. "Don't leave me for dead in the street. The person that hit me probably has, you know, waved at me on the street at some point. I'm not mad, but there's a psycho driving around out there."
