Affidavits: Two people arrested for allegedly breaking into old KCEN building and stealing copper

The owner of the property reportedly told police the items stolen totaled between $90,000-$100,000.

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, Texas — Two people have been arrested for allegedly burglarizing and stealing copper from the old KCEN building in Bruceville-Eddy, according to arrest affidavits from the Bruceville-Eddy Police Department.

According to the affidavits, Bruceville-Eddy Police Chief Michael Dorsey received a call from a contractor for the Bruceville-Eddy Travel Center around 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 23, saying the old KCEN building had been burglarized and a "large amount" of copper wire had been stolen.

Dorsey reportedly investigated the building, and found that the exterior A/C units had been damaged and stripped of copper materials and outside electrical panels had cut copper wire. Dorsey said he also found damaged panels and ceiling tiles inside that had been stripped of copper.

The contractor reportedly showed Dorsey that a sliding glass door had been forced open and a vehicle had been driven into the building.

The affidavit states the contractor contacted Dorsey again on Oct. 16, saying that the building had been burglarized again, causing further damage. Dorsey reportedly installed game cameras in the building with the permission of the owner and contractor.

According to the affidavit, the cameras captured two men and a red and white motorcycle on the property on Oct. 30. Dorsey stated in the affidavit that he recognized one of the men, whom he identified as Kelley Earl Wood, from "previous encounters".

Dorsey reportedly conducted a walkthrough of the building the next day and collected evidence, including cut pieces of wire and a cordless drill.

Also on Oct. 31, Dorsey said he received an Affidavit of Desire to Prosecute from the owner of the property, which stated the amount of items stolen totaled around $90,000-$100,000.

Dorsey went to arrest Wood at his home on Nov. 1, according to the affidavit, where he reportedly met another man, identified as Raymond Terry, who Dorsey said he recognized as the other man who was with Wood on the game camera.

Dorsey said Terry told him where he could find Wood, and he arrested Wood at that location. The affidavit states Dorsey sent officers back to the original home, but Terry, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest, was no longer there. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
