HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — Two men have been arrested in connection to an alleged shooting in Harker Heights in May 2022.
According to the Harker Heights Police Department, Emanuel Cesar Ortiz and Benito Manriquez were arrested in January 2024 on aggravated assault charges related to the shooting.
Police stated that on May 19, 2022, officers found a woman who had been shot in the area of W Central Texas Expressway and S Ann Blvd in Harker Heights. Police reported the woman had been injured when someone fired multiple rounds into her vehicle from another vehicle for unknown reasons.
After an "exhaustive and comprehensive" investigation, Harker Heights PD said they obtained arrest warrants for two suspects in the case on Jan. 23, 2024.
Harker Heights PD said Emanuel Cesar Ortiz was arrested by officers from the Temple Police Department on Jan. 29, 2024, related to a Harker Heights warrant. Ortiz was reportedly arraigned on Jan. 30 on a charge of Aggravated Assault Moving Vehicle Discharge Firearm Causing Serious Bodily Injury with a $150,000 bond.
Benito Manriquez was reportedly detained by the U.S. Marshal Service-Waco on Jan. 31, 2024, related to a Harker Heights warrant. Manriquez was reportedly arraigned on Feb. 1 on a charge of Aggravated Assault Moving Vehicle Discharge Firearm Causing Serious Bodily Injury with a $500,000 bond.
Both Ortiz and Manriquez currently remain in the Bell County Jail at the time of writing, according to the Harker Heights Police Department.
The Harker Heights Police Department thanked the U.S. Marhsal Service-Waco, Killeen Police Department, Temple Police Department, Bell County Sheriff's Office, McLennan County Sheriff's Office and Fort Cavazos Army Criminal Investigation Division for their assistance in the case.
