SALADO, Texas — Two people are reportedly in custody after a chase involving an allegedly stolen vehicle in Bell County, according to the Bell County Sheriff's Department (BCSD).
According to the department, investigators identified "suspicious activity" at the CEFCO Station in Salado, Texas at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 29.
Investigators said an occupied vehicle was identified with a license plate that was reported stolen out of San Antonio. Another occupied vehicle was believed to be involved as a "look-out", said investigators.
BSCD said marked patrol units were called to stop the vehicles, and a pursuit began when deputies arrived.
According to BCSD, the chase ended while the allegedly stolen vehicle traveled northbound on Interstate Highway 35 at a "high rate of speed". BCSD said the vehicle was later discovered abandoned on E. 6th Street in Belton, Texas.
Officers with the Belton Police Department assisted and apprehended the driver of the vehicle, said BCSD. The driver was identified as Stanton Carter of Dallas, Texas. Carter was reportedly taken into custody and taken to the Bell County Jail.
The Bell County Sheriff's Department said the allegedly stolen vehicle was found to contain "fictitious VIN labels" throughout the vehicle, but was ultimately identified and confirmed as stolen out of Harris County.
The other person at the CEFCO Station was "determined to be involved", according to BCSD, and was arrested without incident. The department identified the person as Marby Martinez of Houston.
At the time of writing, both suspects are in custody at the Bell County Jail while the Bell County District Attorney's Office reviews the case for criminal charges.
