Trial of accused Belton High School stabbing suspect Caysen Allison delayed

Caysen Allison was charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed Joe Ramirez, 18, multiple times in a Belton High School bathroom in 2022.

BELTON, Texas — The trial of accused stabbing suspect Caysen Allison has been delayed, according to Bell County court records.

Allison was charged with murder after he reportedly stabbed student Joe Ramirez, 18, multiple times in a Belton High School bathroom in May 2022.

Allison's trial was scheduled to begin on May 20, 2024, according to documents, but was delayed at a hearing on Wednesday, May 8.

At the hearing, attorneys discussed the existence of Chromebooks that previously were not logged, and the defense asked for more time to download and review potential evidence.

The next status hearing is reportedly set for June 5, 2024.

On May 3, 2022, the Belton Police Department was reportedly called out to the high school. When officers arrived, they learned Ramirez was stabbed after he reportedly got into a fight with Allison in a bathroom, police said. Ramirez was taken to the hospital in Temple where he later died from his injuries. An arrest affidavit said Ramirez was stabbed in the chest, back, legs and arm.

Allison, then 18, reportedly fled the school following the stabbing, but officers were able to locate him at his home and arrested him. Police said Allison admitted to the stabbing and that they found a folding knife at his home, which appeared to be covered in blood, according to the affidavit.

Allison was charged with Ramirez's murder. His initial bond was set to $1 million, but it was later reduced to $175,000. He also faced a separate assault charge against a family member, which was an additional $15,000 bond.

Allison is reportedly currently out on bond.
