Temple Police investigate 'swatting' hoax following a false emergency call

According to officers, they made contact with the occupants of the residence, who were safe and unaware of the emergency call.

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department is investigating a “swatting” where they responded to a false emergency call.

At around 9:02 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 31, officers arrived to a false emergency call in the 1400 block of South 5 th Street. According to officers, there were reports of shots fired with two victims sustaining injuries. Numerous officers responded to the area, closing a section of South 5th Street. 

According to officers, while investigating these reports, several details were discovered, which led officers to believe this was a “swatting” incident.

Swatting is the act of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring a large number of emergency services personnel to a particular address.

According to officers, they made contact with the occupants of the residence, who were safe and unaware of the emergency call.
