18 and 24-year-old suspects involved in murder of man outside of Temple bar indicted

TEMPLE, Texas — A Bell County Grand Jury indicted 18-year-old Justin Hix for the murder of 36-year-old Jesse Mattos on Wednesday, Jan. 31. 

In addition to Hix, 24-year-old Ricardo Salazar, Jr. was also indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for his involvement in the incident. 

According to the Temple Police Department, the deadly shooting took place on the night of Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023 just outside of HatTrick Indoor Sports Bar in the 200 block of North Main Street. 

Hix originally turned himself in to Temple PD the following evening. An arrest warrant was issued for Salazar and he turned himself in on Dec. 2, 2023. 

It is not yet known when the next steps in the judicial process will take place.
