Suspect arrested for allegedly hitting cyclist in Woodway

The Woodway Public Safety Department said a suspect was arrested less than 24 hours after the incident.

WOODWAY, Texas — One person is in custody after an alleged hit and run in Woodway, according to the Woodway Public Safety Department (PSD).

According to Woodway PSD, officers and medical personnel responded to a call of a severely injured cyclist on Aug. 29. The cyclist had reportedly been hit by a vehicle which then fled the scene.

Officers found a side mirror from the vehicle at the scene, said the department.

The Woodway dispatcher who fielded the original call about the cyclist later received another call from someone reporting their car was stuck, said the PSD.

The dispatcher was able to link the calls together, said Woodway PSD, leading to the location of a suspect vehicle in the hit and run. That vehicle was also missing a mirror and had damage "consistent with striking a cyclist", according to the department.

Detectives with the Public Safety Department reportedly traced the mirror's part number back to the suspect vehicle, and confirmed that it was a match by fitting the mirror onto the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle's trunk, detectives reportedly found a punctured tire and a kickstand they say belonged to the bike that was hit.

Woodway PSD said the suspect was arrested less than 24 hours after the incident.
