A shooting suspect has been captured after leading multiple agencies, including the Temple Police Department on a manhunt Wednesday afternoon.

The manhunt began after he reportedly ran over an officer in the 100 block of N. 11th Street around 3:12 p.m.

According to police, the officer was in the area when he heard gunshots and saw a fight between two people. A bystander attempted to intervene, at which point the suspect allegedly shot at him, police say.

As the officer attempted to arrest him, the shooting suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, police say. As the suspect was getting away, he reportedly struck the officer and dragged him with the car, injuring him.

The suspect crashed near Wendland Road and Industrial Road, before running away on foot into a wooded area, sparking the manhunt.

Nearly 50 officers blocked off the area to search for him, along with multiple agencies and police dogs.

As a precaution, Kennedy-Powell Elementary School was placed on lockdown during the manhunt, according to police.

Temple PD says the officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay along with the bystander.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
