MILAM COUNTY, Texas — A man was arrested on Tuesday, June 25 on multiple felony charges for a case that began in Milam County involving multiple thousands of dollars of equipment.
According to the Milam County Sheriff's Office, the owner of a 2023 Supertrak informed them that his construction equipment had been stolen. At the time it was stolen, the man had leased it to Shawn Sims, 51, a man hired to clear property in the county.
While investigating the theft, deputies learned that Sims told the equipment owner about a leak that needed to be fixed, only for the Supertrak to go missing. Sims was found moving the Supertrak to a storage facility in Seguin, which was later recovered by Seguin Police.
Investigators also believe Sims had not completed jobs he was paid to do, which added to his charges. Additionally, in order to rent the equipment, Sims allegedly used fake government documents with tax information for a company that didn't exist.
Sims currently is in the Wilson County Jail on the following charges:
- Second degree felony Theft between $150,000 and $300,000
- State jail felony Theft between $2,500 and $30,000
- State jail felony Tampering with a Government Record to Defraud or Harm
The Milam County Sheriff's Office says Sims additional charges may be added from other areas where he committed crimes.
