Salado Police Department call on community's support to fight crime

Participation in the Village Video Partnership program is voluntary, and participants have the option to opt-out at any time.

SALADO, Texas — The Salado Police Department is rallying residents, business owners, and property management firms to join hands in the fight against crime through a new initiative aimed at using private security cameras.

Under the Village Video Partnership program, individuals and organizations are encouraged to register their privately owned security cameras overlooking public areas within the Village of Salado, including sidewalks, streets, and parking lots. By doing so, participants allow law enforcement officers to access a database of homes and businesses equipped with surveillance cameras in the event of criminal incidents.

Participants should note that enrollment in the program does not grant direct access to private surveillance systems, nor does it authorize active surveillance.

Instead, registered participants may be contacted by the police department to find out whether their cameras have captured relevant footage that could help in criminal investigations.

"All registry information is only available to the police department for the purposes of investigating a criminal matter," Salado Police said.

Participation in the Village Video Partnership program is voluntary, and participants have the option to opt-out at any time.

To register, individuals can visit the Village of Salado website and complete the Village Video Partnership form located under Police Department Outreach Programs.
