AUSTIN, Texas — Authorities have arrested a man who was wanted in connection with the murder of an 80-year-old man on May 20.
The suspect, Raul Meza Jr., is well known to authorities in Travis County, as he has a prior conviction for the murder of an 8-year-old girl in Travis County in 1982.
At around 12:30 p.m. on May 20, Pflugerville police officers responded to a welfare check in the 700 block of Camp Fire Trail. Upon entering the home, officers found the victim, 80-year-old Jesse Fraga, dead.
According to investigators, Meza was befriended by Fraga, who was a retired parole officer. Fraga was allowing Meza to stay at his home.
On May 30, the Austin Police Department (APD) announced that Meza Jr. had been arrested "in connection to multiple murders." Pflugerville police said the arrest was made by the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.
Meza Jr. was booked into the Travis County Jail at 1:12 a.m. on May 30 and is facing three charges: two unknown first-degree felonies and unauthorized use of a vehicle, a state jail felony.
APD will hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m. on May 30 to provide more information about Meza Jr.'s arrest.
