KILLEEN, Texas — One person is in critical condition and a dog is dead after being hit by a car while walking in Killeen, police say.
According to the Killeen Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call about a crash in the 5600 block of East Stagecoach Road around 1:29 a.m. on Sept. 18.
When Accident Investigators arrived at the scene, they reportedly determined that a dark-colored vehicle "failed to stay in its lane", veered onto the sidewalk and hit a pedestrian who was walking their dog before fleeing the scene.
The pedestrian was reportedly taken to Baylor Scott & White in Temple, where they are in critical but stable condition as of the time of writing, pending surgery, said KPD. Police said the dog was killed in the crash.
Killeen PD stated the initial investigation indicates the vehicle could be a darker (gray or silver), smaller car, possibly a Honda, which will have front-end damage.
Killeen PD investigators are asking anyone with information, videos or security footage of the area to contact the Traffic Unit at 254-200-7970 or the Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477.
