AUSTIN, Texas — A Central Texas mother is still looking for answers after her 24-year-old Army Veteran daughter went missing on Friday, June 16, 2023.
Haleigh Murphy was reported missing over a year ago and her mother, Becky Mitchell, is continuing to push for answers in her disappearance.
"At this point we do feel like something's happened to her," Mitchell said.
The night Murphy went missing, she was planning to go on a yacht party weekend trip with friends, according to Mitchell. After not getting a response from Murphy that weekend, Mitchell reported her missing on Tuesday.
The last time Murphy was seen was at Eddie's Tavern in Round Rock, a sports bar.
Murphy has a three-year-old son, about to turn four. Mitchell says that Murphy would not leave her son under any circumstance.
"She's all that her son had, so she she ain't gonna take off on him," Mitchell said. "Only way that she would not ever come home is because she's dead, or somebody's got her, she's held captive somewhere and she can't get away."
It's taken a toll on Murphy's son too.
"He's just out here in limbo," Mitchell explained. "How do you explain why your mama ain't coming home?"
The Texas Rangers took over the investigation in March. Mitchell is hopeful for answers now that they have taken over the case.
"They are trying, and they're following up on everything that they get," Mitchell said. "There wasn't a lot of things being looked at, but the ones that are assigned to it now, they are checking into a lot of things that weren't checked into before."
Filled with anger and heartbreak, Mitchell won't give up and plans to continue to fight for closure.
"We just want to bring her home," Mitchell said. "However it is, we just want her."
A candlelight vigil and search for answers will be held Sunday, Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Meadow Lake Park in Round Rock. It is open to the public.
If you have seen or heard anything or have information on Murphy's whereabouts, contact the Texas Rangers.
