One man shot at McDonald's, suspect detained in Killeen

A nearby elementary school was placed on lock down while police searched for the shooter.

KILLEEN, Texas — One person was shot at a McDonald's in Killeen Tuesday, a spokesperson for Killeen police confirmed.

The shooting happened a little before noon at the McDonald's on Rancier Ave, according to spokewoman Ofelia Miramontez.

Miramontez said one person was arrested near the College Park Apartments on Dunn Ave. and taken to the Killeen city jail.

Miramontez said the victim and suspect, who know each other, were arguing before the shooting started.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Miramontez said.

Killeen Independent School District spokeswoman Taina Maya said Ward Elementary School was placed on a brief lock down while police searched for the suspect.

6 News tried to speak with people living in the area but most told us they wouldn't for fear they would be shoot too.

A search using Lexus Nexus found that within the last three months there had been 16 violent crimes within a mile radius of the McDonald's. Violent crimes include homicide, robbery, aggravated assault and sexual assault.
