KILLEEN, Texas — One person was hospitalized and two police officers were placed on leave after an officer-involved shooting in Killeen on Sunday, Jan. 14, according to the Killeen Police Department.
KPD stated officers were dispatched to the area of the 100 block of Elms Road at approximately 1:05 p.m. in reference to an alleged armed suspect. The call was reportedly upgraded to shots fired before officers arrived.
According to the department, a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was "involved in a disturbance" and fled on foot towards Florence Road.
When officers arrived, they reportedly located and engaged the suspect. While engaging the suspect, Killeen PD said the officers shot the suspect.
The suspect was reportedly taken by ambulance to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.
Both officers involved in the shooting, who were both 12-year veterans, were placed on administrative leave as per protocol, according to KPD.
According to the department, the Texas Rangers responded to the scene and are the lead investigating agency. The Killeen Police Department Internal Affairs Unit will also reportedly conduct an internal investigation.
The investigation into the incident is reportedly ongoing. No further information has been given at this time.
