Suspect in custody after officer-involved shooting in Temple

Temple PD says the officer who opened fire was placed under administrative leave as they investigate this case.

TEMPLE, Texas — One suspect is in custody following an officer-involved shooting in Temple Thursday.

The Temple Police Department say officers tried conducting a traffic stop at West Avenue H and South 37th Street around 3 p.m., but the driver sped off.

Officers tried pulling him over again in the 500 block of W. Avenue V.. That's when an officer tried to approach him, the driver reportedly tried to strike the officer with his vehicle.

Police say the officer fired two shots at the suspect, but only struck his vehicle.

Later, the suspect abandoned his vehicle in the 1100 block of South 23rd Street and fled on foot through a residential area, police say.

Officers were able to catch him and arrest him. He was transported to the Bell County Jail.
