Temple man shot, killed by teenager in downtown, police say

According to information shared with 6 News, a passerby initially notified an officer of the incident around 8 a.m. Thursday and that the suspect fled.

TEMPLE, Texas — A man died after a shooting near the Santa Fe Plaza Thursday morning in Temple.

Temple police identified the victim as 47-year-old Paolo Tescari.

According to Temple police, around 8 a.m. an officer was informed by a person in the area near the Santa Fe Plaza off of 7th Street and Avenue A about an "incident" involving a person that ran away from the scene and got into a car.

A local citizen, Jeffrey Henry, was there during the incident. He flagged down the officer and called 911.

"The loud pop sounded like a gunshot, as I looked over my shoulder up in my side window, I saw the victim fall to the ground. I got out on the phone, calling 911," Henry continued. "We walked over, and as soon as I saw the blood, I backed away."

Henry shared that nothing prepares you for witnessing something like this. 

The officer notified dispatch of a description of the suspect and the car that they fled in, and they were later detained by a constable in the area. Temple police identified the suspect on Friday as 17-year-old Kevin Jaramillo Ramirez.

Life-saving measures were performed on Tescari by the responding officer, but he later died from his injuries. Justice of the Peace Wilkey pronounced Tescari dead at 8:24 a.m.
