TEMPLE, Texas — One person is dead after a shooting near the Santa Fe Plaza Thursday morning in Temple.
According to Temple Police, around 8 a.m. an officer was informed by a person in the area near the Santa Fe Plaza off of 7th Street and Avenue A about an "incident" involving a person that ran away from the scene and got into a car.
The officer notified dispatch of a description of the suspect and the car that they fled in, and they were later detained by a constable in the area.
Life-saving measures were performed on the victim by the responding officer, but they later died from their injuries. Justice of the Peace Wilkey pronounced the victim dead at 8:24 a.m.
Police say there is no threat to the public and are asking those with information to come forward to authorities while the incident is being investigated.
