Mexia Police seeking info related to overdose cases involving Xanax

Mexia PD say they believe the victims in two overdose cases that occurred on Friday, Aug. 9 may have gotten substances from the same location.

MEXIA, Texas — Mexia Police are looking for information related to an investigation involving two overdose victims on Friday, Aug. 9.

That day, Zariahya Carter, 22, was found unresponsive and was taken to Parkview Regional Hospital that morning. She was later transferred to Medical City Arlington for additional care related to her overdose, but unfortunately passed away, according to Mexia PD.

A second victim was also at the Parkview Regional Hospital for an overdose. The victim, whose name was not revealed, was later transferred to Waco for further treatment from the overdose. The status of the second victim was not revealed by police as of publish time.

Police say it is believed that the Xanax in the incidents was not acquired from a pharmacy but believe both victims obtained the substances from the same location, and are investigating where the substances came from.
