Mexia Man shot in parking lot, suspect in custody

MEXIA, Texas — The Limestone County dispatch received a call Thursday that person was shot in the face n the parking lot of a local retailer on Milam St. in Mexia at about 4:50 p.m.

Before they arrived the Mexia Police Department learned that the suspect stole the victim's car and fled the scene. The police then used GPS tracking to locate the stolen vehicle in the 500 block of South Denton.

Limestone County Dispatch received multiple reports from citizens that allowed the department to track the suspect.  

The suspect was eventually surrounded by responding agencies in a wooded area of a neighborhood on the west side of Mexia. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident at 5:56 p.m.

The victim was taken from the scene of the shooting to Parkview Regional Hospital by an unknown person. His current medical status is unknown.

This suspect was identified as Kenny Waters, 26, of Mexia. Waters was initially charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle but additional charges may be filed.

Waters was arrested and formally charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and evading arrest or detention.

The suspect is currently held at the Limestone County Jail pending a bond hearing.

 The City of Mexia has learned that the victim of the incident suffered non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from medical care.
