Man wanted for forging $1.8 million check, not registering as sex offender in multiple states arrested in Houston

Michael Lawrence Warren, 47, was arrested at a Houston hotel after a multi-state fugitive investigation.

MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — A 47-year-old man wanted in McLennan County – as well as numerous other states – was arrested at a hotel in Houston after a multi-state fugitive investigation, according to McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara.

Michael Lawrence Warren was wanted in McLennan County for forging a $1.8 million business check, as well as parole violations, probation violations, and sex offender registration failures in multiple states, including Maryland, Colorado, Georgia, and Texas.

According to McNamara, the investigation began in April when Warren, acting as a trustee of The SoVo Trust Foundation, allegedly sent a fraudulent business check along with a real estate contract and memorandum to a local bank in an attempt to purchase a foreclosed property in Crawford, Texas. The check, which was later confirmed to be forged, prompted the local bank to notify McLennan County Sheriff’s Office.

As the investigation progressed, the sheriff's office found out Warren was also wanted for a series of serious offenses in multiple states. He was flagged as a violent offender, known to have a history of drug abuse and violent tendencies, according to the sheriff's office.

Warren was traced to Houston, where he was found living under multiple aliases. He was arrested on Oct. 30 at a hotel in southwest Houston.

Authorities found of several identification cards and multiple financial accounts under different names in the hotel room.

Warren was transferred to the McLennan County Jail, where he faces charges of Forgery, with an amount exceeding $300,000, as well as outstanding warrants for violations in several states.
