TEMPLE, Texas — Maya Maxwell was extradited from Michigan to Bell County Jail Tuesday for her connection to the disappearances of Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingin.
She is being held on a $500,000 bond. She's facing a third degree felony charge for tampering with evidence.
Channel 6 legal analyst Liz Mitchell said detectives are in a race against time to start the interrogation process and gather any information they can from Maxwell regarding the case.
Mitchell also said Maxwell's extradition signifies the importance of her involvement in the case.
Maxwell confessed to police she had tried to hide Swearingin's car from law enforcement by leaving it in Austin.
She is an acquaintance of Cedric Marks, Scott's ex-boyfriend. Scott had filed a protective order against Marks after he broke into her home last August.
Marks is currently awaiting extradition back to Bell County from Michigan, where he was arrested for charges connected to the August incident.
Maxwell was living with Marks and his wife when she was arrested.
"In this case it looks as if this woman is being charged as a co-defendant," Mitchell said. "More than likely, prosecutors and authorities would try to talk to this woman and get her to cooperate against the other person being charged."
