GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — A man has been sentenced to 20 total years in prison in Grimes County for aggravated assault and escaping custody, according to the Grimes County District Attorney's Office.

According to the Grimes County DA's Office, 52-year-old Albino Guerrero pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Escape on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

On July 23, 2021, the Grimes County Sheriff's Office reportedly responded to an assault call. Investigators determined Albino Guerrero attacked a man with a knife, causing the victim to be hospitalized, said the Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said Guerrero was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and booked into the Grimes County Jail.

On Sept. 13, 2023, while Albino was working as a trusty at the Grimes County Jail awaiting trial, he allegedly walked out of the jail sallyport and fled on foot.

After a multi-agency manhunt, Guerrero was recaptured later that day and charged with Escape, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Guerrero reportedly pled guilty to both offenses and was sentenced to 10 years on both charges. His sentences will be served concurrently.
