WOODWAY, Texas — A man expecting to meet a 16-year-old girl at Whitehall Park in Woodway was instead greeted by Woodway detectives, according to the Woodway Public Safety Department.

Shannon Charping, 50, sent sexually explicit messages over social media to the undercover detective including several graphic images before suggesting they meet in public, police said.

Police said Charping arrived at Whitehall Park at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and was arrested and taken to the McLennan County jail.

Charping is charged with online solicitation of a minor, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and possession of controlled substance.

Police said this serves as a reminder for all parents to keep an eye on their kids' online activity while they are home from school during the shelter-in-place order.
